WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

The Visual Communications' Food Porn Lab is a FREE three-part feast for the senses that combines education with competitive fun. One-part educational photography tutorial and food styling workshop, one-part photo competition, and one-part community potluck, this event is going to give the foodie in you multiple foodgasms. Seriously.



ABOUT

The event occurred on THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 2011, 5 PM TO 9 PM, and was attended by over 60 community members, with over 40 competing in the photography competition. Professional photographers from the Los Angeles Times, including a two time pulitzer prize-winner, Kirk McKoy, taught the techniques of Food Photography and Food Styling.   See More...

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The last two hours will be dedicated to the Food Porn contest, where participants will duke it out with their digital cameras in a shoot-out to the death.Each individual competitor must use their newly acquired techniques to style, light, and shoot dishes donated by Starry Kitchen with the provided props and equipment. We’ll be looking for resourcefulness and creativity. Nguyen and Thi Tran owners of the famed underground restaurant, Starry Kitchen, will judge and select the winning photos.

  
Categories to win include the following and more:
*Most (Food) Pornographic
Best Composition
Best Color
Best Atmosphere/Ambiance/Mood

*awarded Grand Prize

 

RULES:

1. Only photos taken at the competition time (7PM-9PM) will be accepted;

2. You must provide your own digital camera and USB 2.0 cable;

3. DSLRs will be judged separately from Point and Shoots;

4. No post processing such as Photoshop is allowed;

5. One photo per individual contestant category  will accepted for each competition;

6. There is NO registration fee;

   

 


   

    

THE PRIZES

Winners will be announced on Friday, August 26, 2011 and will be sent an email notification with instructions to pick-up the prizes at Visual Communications.

Besides the Fame and notoriety forever, winners for each category will receive:

1.  Winning photo framed and displayed at Starry Kitchen’s restaurant;

2.  Winning photo displayed on Starry Kitchen’s website and menu;

3.  $20 gift card to Starry Kitchen.

   

The Grand Prize Winner of the Most (Food) Pornographic category will receive:

1. $100 gift card to Starry Kitchen

2. One All-Access Festival Passes for the 2012 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

3. Winning photo framed and displayed at Starry Kitchen’s restaurant;
