VC 2012 Summer Interns Are YOUTH INSPIRED

VIDEO SERIES SPOTLIGHTS ASIAN AMERICAN ARTISTS AND ACTIVISTS

Over the past few weeks, the summer 2012 interns at Visual Communications collaborated to produce a set of videos for YOUTH INSPIRED, a short web series featuring young media producers and community leaders. From selecting potential subjects to making final video edits, we have been hard at work to spotlight the incredible passion and talents of young media producers and local community leaders who not only inspire us, but their communities and peers as well.

For the 2012 series of YOUTH INSPIRED, the interns — Charmaine Cleveland, Christine Lew, Jill Marucut, Kyle Tsukahira, and Kimberly Zarate — interviewed the filmmakers of WongFu Productions, independent actor/producer Chris Dinh, singer/songwriter David Choi, and Kristin Fukushima, co-founder of the Japanese American youth organization Kizuna.

In the first of four videos, the interns visited WongFu Productions on the set of an upcoming music video for YouTube singer/songwriter David Choi. They sat down with WongFu’s Philip Wang and Wesley Chan to get their takes on how they started, the scope of their diverse projects, and how fan support fuels their creativity.

In this second installment of YOUTH INSPIRED, the interns talked briefly with independent actor/producer Chris Dinh to get his take on how new media artists gain inspiration from their peers.

In this third installment of YOUTH INSPIRED, the interns talked briefly with singer/songwriter David Choi during a break on the set of his latest music video, and find out a little about his creative process.

In our final installment of YOUTH INSPIRED, the interns chat with Kristin Fukushima, the co-founder of the Japanese American youth organization Kizuna. Kristin tells us about Kizuna's programs, her vision for the future, and how youth involvement and leadership development helps younger generations understand and become closer to their communities.
