VC Academy: Summer 2012

Looking to become better acquainted with your digital SLR (single-lens reflex) camera for both still or motion picture shoots? Or are you interested in managing all those pictures you've taken over the years? Then take a class this summer at the VC Academy and learn both the basics and advanced tips and tricks from working industry professionals. Classes are appropriate for all levels of students, unless otherwise stated. CAMERA WORKSHOP: GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DIGITAL SLR

As technology continues to improve exponentially, more and more filmmakers are turning to digital. What do you need to know? What are the advantages and limitations in utilizing a digital camera for your shoot? In this 5 hour workshop, Director of Photography Richard Briglia will be utilizing the Canon 7D to cover the following:

• How digital interprets light;

• Shutter speed – understanding how time and movement relate to each other;

• Aperture;

• Lenses;

• Filters and lights;

• Accessories;

• Composition;

• Shooting exteriors; and

• Prepping for your shoot.


NOTE: there will be two Canon 7D’s available for use during the workshop; however it is recommended that you bring your own camera.

Today, the proliferation of technology has made making video content accessible to anyone and everyone. But what then? Are you a filmmaker who needs to post your film on-line? Are you looking to create a web-series? Do you just want to be able to share your content with friends and family? This workshop, led by Producer of Marketing & Distribution Stephen Dypiangco (of PBS’ National Film Society), will cover the following:

• Basics – Prepping your video;

• Overview of content sharing platforms;

• Platforms that work best for you – compare and contrast;

• Sharing via social media – Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, etc.; and

• How to build your audience.


NOTE: computer workstations are limited and it is recommended that attendees bring their own laptop.
