You’ve got the shots, now you need to edit them into a great piece. Step it up a notch from iMovie, Windows Live Movie Maker, and FlipShare and learn Final Cut Pro from master editor Walt Louie. Participants will learn all the basics: what makes a good video clip, how to organize clips into bins, capturing, operating basic editing controls, performing picture and audio edits, and outputting. During the workshop, we’ll also explore how to put together a simple video montage and cutting for documentaries. For those with little or no experience with Final Cut Pro, this session is a great way to learn all the functionality of the software.

Think you know Final Cut Pro? Before you put your video on a butcher's block, sharpen your skills with master editor Walt Louie. This workshop will really strengthen your abilities, and you'll benefit from exercises in delivering a concise and effective message. We’ll be examining the aesthetics of editing: What makes a good cut, how and when to employ the multiple tools available: motion graphics, layering, effects and filters, without relying on gimmicks.

Participants will learn from a seasoned industry veteran with years (… dare we say decades?) of experience cutting commercial trailers for blockbuster movies. This intensive workshop is a must for anyone thinking about entering the world of commercial editing or those who just want to cut a great piece. Note: This workshop is not recommended for beginners.

Thinking of adding a voice-over? What about layering some sound effects? For your aural pleasure, we are excited to offer a workshop and demonstration on basic post-production sound for the do-it-yourself filmmaker, led by sound designer and mixer Jon Oh.
 
Jon has been working as a Los Angeles-based sound designer and mixer for over 20 years. Using the Pro Tools platform, Jon will focus on basic techniques and strategies to prepare your soundtrack — prepping the score; the ins and outs of voice-overs; recording, creating and editing sound effects; do-it-yourself foley and dialogue replacement; organizing tracks before the final mix; and voice dubbing.
 
Whether you’re a pro or beginning film student, you’ll learn from years of doing sound right!
