CALIFORNIA ASIAN AMERICAN/PACIFIC ISLANDER ARTS NETWORK (CAAPIAN)

Mission
CAAPIAN’s mission is to facilitate information dissemination between Asian American/Pacific Islander arts organizations statewide in order to strengthen collaboration and advocacy.

History
Statewide networks of specific arts fields and ethnicities are organizing to facilitate arts advocacy from every angle in order to sustain and hopefully increase financial support for the arts. With the support and encouragement of the CAC, Barry Hessenius, and Jerry Yoshitomi, member of the CAC Multicultural Advisory Committee, Visual Communications in Los Angeles and Asian Improv aRts in San Francisco have taken on the task of organizing the Asian American and Pacific Islander arts community for networking and advocacy purposes.

Activities:
o Listserv: Weekly emails are sent out on the CAAPIAN listserv, disseminating information on state/national arts news/policy information, funding and job opportunities. To subscribe this listserv, please send an email to lito_arts@yahoo.com

o Website: Documenting the CAAPIAN history and activities

o Directory: Currently we have collected information on over 60 Asian American and Pacific Islander arts organizations; this information will be shared on the CAAPIAN website. To put your organization into the database, please go to http://www.asianimprov.com/caapianreg.htm

o Regional Meetings: Regional meetings were held in June 2002 in San Francisco and Los Angeles, gathering over 100 artists and arts professionals. For a report of this meeting, go to the Regional Meeting section of the website.
