MASTERS OF THE PILLOW
(USA, 2003) Dir./Scr.: James Hou
MASTERS OF THE PILLOW deftly presents the latest examination of Asian
American men in American popular culture: the absence of a sexual
identity for the Asian American male in popular media. Director Hou
takes as his point of departure a provocative essay, “The Joy
Fuck Club: Prolegemenon to an Asian American Porno Practice”
by UC Davis Asian American Studies professor Darrell Hamamoto. In
it, Hamamoto advocates the escalation of Asian American men in pornography
to re-‘orient’ an ‘impoverished’ Western manifestation
of Asian American heterosexuality. The documentary climaxes, literally,
with Hamamoto’s attempt to put theory into practice when he
makes a pornographic film featuring Asian Americans.

YELLOWCAUST: A PATRIOT ACT
(USA, 2003) Dir./Scr.: Darrell Y. Hamamoto
YELLOWCAUST: A PATRIOT ACT recounts signal events in the history of
anti-Asian racism during the twentieth century and examines the ways
in which the States has warped and distorted the sexuality of Asian
Americans. Not content to simply articulate the problem, YELLOWCAUST
offers a provocative solution to the alienated sexuality of Asian
Americans.
Video, 11 min., color, Experimental Narrative

explicit sexual content, no one under the age of 18 will be allowed
