SKYPODS AND DEATHBALLS: A Salute to Cherry Sky Films (RT: 69 minutes)
Fresh out of UC Berkeley, Joan Huang arrived at VC FILMFEST in 1998 armed with a video camera with which she has documented the ongoing developments of Asian American cinema. Years later, in her capacity as a producer and champion of emerging cinema artists, Huang and her cohorts at their recently-formed company, Cherry Sky Films, has determined to support the efforts of filmmakers both young and old. Indeed, this program comprises a couple of older works by past VC FILMFEST artists who found crucial production and moral support from Cherry Sky; and a soon-to-be completed series—the Skypod Series, in which technology and humanity share a tenuous existence.
