VC at 35: PART ONE

VC FILMFEST observes the 35th anniversary of Visual Communications with a look back at the organization’s groundbreaking 1970s works, which combined Super 8, 16mm, and video production as mediamaking tools to fundamentally re-represent the experiences of Asian American communities. This selection of works, by two of the organization’s co-founders and its former executive director, exemplifies what had come to be regarded as the “Visual Communications” look—deep-hued color, muscular and active hand-held photography, and an empathy for their subject matters.
