PERTH
(Singapore, 2004) Dir./Scr.: Djinn
ìPERTH is the story of Harry Lee, 51, part taxi driver, part
security guard scraping a living working on the margins off the
underbelly of Singapore's otherwise antiseptic streets. Harry dreams
of migrating to Perth in Western Australia, his paradise on earth,
away from the status-conscious and materialistic world around him
that has passed him by. His dreams become a little too complicated
when he decides to take on a job ferrying hostesses to clients for
a local prostitution house. As he tackles the demons awoken by his
attempted reconciliation with his estranged family, the memories
evoked through his association with a young Vietnamese working girl
proves too much to bear, leading to a dark and ominous conclusion.
