20:30:40
(Taiwan/Hong Kong, 2004) Dir.: Sylvia Chang; Scr.: Sylvia Chang,
GC Goo-Bi, Cat Kwan
20:30:40 focuses on the comedy, loss and love of three contemporary
Chinese women. The title indicates the rough ages of the three leads
and given the pace of change in Asia, each decade of age presents
a significant generation gap. Like the earthquake the three women
experience on-screen, they share the emotional turmoil of their
lives being shaken up. Twenty-something Jie (Angelica Lee) is an
aspiring pop star from Malaysia who comes to Taipei to seek her
fame and fortune. Jie is paired up with Tong (Kate Yeung), another
20-something from Hong Kong, to form a singing duo. Thirty-something
Xiang (Rene Liu) is a flight attendant who needs several cell phones
to manage her complicated love life. Forty-something Lily (Sylvia
Chang) has her life torn apart when she accidentally discovers her
husband has a secret, second life with a younger mistress and child.
