Visual Communications joins forces once again with OutFest to offer the perfect antidote for bowl-game overdose: a return screening of the multi-award-winning COLMA: THE MUSICAL by the team of director/cinematographer/editor Richard Wong and screenwriter/music composer/actor H.P. Mendoza. The first Asian American musical narrative produced since FLOWER DRUM SONG in 1961, COLMA scored Special Jury Awards at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival, and VC FILMFEST, and was nominated recently for a prestigious Gotham Award. With colorful, wildly original and heartfelt songs this impressive, boisterous and entertaining musical blasts through the coming-of-age genre. Billy, Rodel and Maribel have no intention of sticking around Colma, where there are more graveyards than front yards. Tensions -- sexual and otherwise -- flare among the three friends, two straight, one gay, when one begins dating a new girl and the others must compete for his attention.
